RakshaBandhan RakshaBandhan RakshaBandhan
RakshaBandhan RakshaBandhan

Raksha Bandhan marks the love and bond between sister and brother. On this day, sisters tie a thread which is known as ‘Rakhi’ on the wrist of their brothers. This way the sisters wish for the long life and welfare of their brothers. In return, the brothers vow to take care of their sisters and to protect them from any trouble or problem for life long. The sisters offer sweets to their brothers and the brothers offer gifts to their sisters in return. This beautiful festival is truly an affectionate festival which showcases wishes, blessings and love for each other.

Since relationships are the spirit of celebration and any celebration is incomplete without the family during any Indian festival, this beautiful festival of Raksha Bandhan enhances the integrity of it. This festival brings the entire family under one roof and makes the environment very joyful. Raksha Bandhan is a festival which is basically focused on the relationship of brothers and sisters. This day provides an opportunity to the distant living brothers and sisters to come together and share their joys and sorrows. In case they can not meet each other on this day due to any circumstances, sisters send their greetings and wishes along with ‘Rakhi’ to their brothers as a mark of love and the brothers send gifts in return as an acknowledgement of their sisters’ wishes.

Earlier this festival was celebrated only in North India, but now days other people are also celebrating this festival as this gives them an opportunity to meet each other and share the happiness. A sacred thaali is arranged by the sisters for their brothers. This thaali includes vermillion, few rice grains, a holy lamp and the best ‘Rakhi’ chosen by the sister for her brother. All these things are considered sacred and have importance in Hindu culture.
In earlier days, Rishis or sages used to tie ‘Rakhi’ to those people who came to seek their wishes and blessings. This way they ask the people to help them in case of any need or problem. Now days, this festival is not restricted only to the blood relations. People tie this thread to their friends, relatives, neighbors and acquaintances as a mark of love, respect and trust.
This divine festival is truly very different from other festivals which play a huge role in the integrity of any Indian family.
